Renan Bread Wheat Seed
Winter bread wheat. Gluten 30-45%, alveograph energy up to 350. Red hard grain, test weight 78-82 kg/hl.
Renan is a winter wheat for growers who are after bread-making quality. It was bred by Agri Obtentions and registered in Türkiye in 2013 in the name of Granar Tarım. It is one of the most widely sown bread wheats in Europe.
How it behaves in the field
The white ears are broad, erect and long. The straw is thick and sound: good lodging resistance and a high straw yield. The awns keep birds and wild boar off. The plant stands 95-100 cm.
It has a winter habit and very good cold tolerance. It is medium-late and needs vernalisation — it will not head without a winter. That rules out spring sowing; the window is fixed to autumn.
Tillering capacity is high, which is why the seed rate is lower than for other wheats: 20-22 kg per decare is enough.
Where and when to sow
Recommended for Central Anatolia, the western and eastern transition zones, the whole of Eastern Anatolia, the parts of Marmara that get spring rain, and the high plateaus of the coastal regions. It grows on bottomland, semi-bottomland and dryland alike.
Sow during October in Central and Eastern Anatolia, and from late October to early November in the transition zones and Marmara.
Grain and quality
The grain is red, hard, large and elliptical. In European terms this is a BAF (strength wheat): the type a mill blends in to raise dough strength.
Gluten 30-45%, gluten index 85-95%, protein 13-16.7%, sedimentation 45-60, test weight 78-82 kg/hl, alveograph energy 300-350.
Yield
350-400 kg/da rainfed, 500-700 kg/da irrigated. Seed is supplied as Basic/Pre-basic class in 50 kg bags.
