Mirna Alfalfa Seed

Mirna alfalfa plant in purple flower
Certification class: Elit/Orijinal Alfalfa
Imported variety

Perennial alfalfa for continental climates. Dormancy 5, three to four cuts a year, five years of stand from the second year.

Mirna is a perennial alfalfa selected for continental climates, bred by the BC Institute in Croatia. Its dormancy rating is 5.

How long the stand lasts

Under favourable conditions it can be cut economically for five years from the second year onwards. In alfalfa the real cost is establishment, so how many years that cost is spread over is the main thing to weigh when choosing a variety. Three to four cuts a year.

Plant structure

Erect habit, 80-100 cm tall. The stem is hollow to semi-hollow, well branched and leafy — a high leaf share means high feeding value. Flowers are purple and borne in racemes; the pod has two to three coils. Thousand-seed weight 1.8-2.2 g.

Cold tolerance is high. Although it was developed for irrigated conditions, its drought resistance is also good. It adapts readily, has no soil preference and can be grown in every region of Türkiye.

All classes of stock, sheep and cattle alike, take it readily.

Sowing

Sow in September-October or February-March. Drilled, 2.5 kg per decare; broadcast, 3-3.5 kg. Supplied in 10 kg bags.

For an earlier variety with a dormancy of 6, see Central. Call us for prices and availability.
