Sinanbey is a two-row winter barley bred for dry conditions. It was registered in 2021 in the name of the Field Crops Central Research Institute and is a Turkish national variety; Granar Tarım produces the certified seed.
Why dryland
Under rainfed conditions it yields 350-680 kg per decare. The range is that wide not because the variety is erratic but because dryland is: the same variety can double its output depending on winter rainfall. Drought tolerance is high because that was the selection criterion.
How it behaves in the field
The ears are awned and the plant stands 90-100 cm. Lodging and cold tolerance are good and it holds up against disease.
Heading is late. A late-heading variety uses spring rain for longer, but is more exposed to a late heat spell. That trade-off is exactly why it is chosen on dryland fields with reliable winter and spring rain.
Grain and quality
Thousand-grain weight is 41-48 g — the largest grain among the barleys in our range. Test weight 62-70 kg/hl, protein 13-15%, screenings above 2.5-2.8 mm 57-78%. Feed quality.
Sowing and yield
We recommend 25-30 kg per decare rainfed and 22-25 kg under irrigation, where yield rises to 600-800 kg/da.
