Assas Forage Pea Seed
Winter forage pea. In its registration trials 19% above standard for green forage and 22.1% for hay. Protein 18.49%, up to 18 main stems.
Assas is a forage pea with a winter growth habit. It was bred by Agri Obtentions and registered by TTSM in 2018 in the name of Granar Tarım. It is one of the most widely sown forage peas in Europe.
What the registration trials showed
It topped its trials, coming in 19% above the standard mean for green forage yield and 22.1% above for hay. It also gave the best quality figures in the same trials: protein 18.49%, dry matter 91.07%, NDF 45.53, ADF 37.90, ADL 6.27, dry matter digestibility 121.3.
Why the yield is high
The plant carries up to 18 main stems. Tillering that strong builds biomass directly, and that is where the difference in fresh and dry forage yield comes from.
The plant stands 180-200 cm, with purple flowers, broad leaves and a sound, broad stem. Cold tolerance is very good. It grows on bottomland, semi-bottomland and dryland alike.
The harvest window
Depending on sowing date, forage harvest falls between late April and early May. After the first flower appears the crop keeps flowering and extending for another 15-20 days. In practice that is a wide harvest window: a week's delay does not cost you the crop.
Sowing
Sow in autumn, from October to mid-December; sowing is still possible up to mid-March. In a pure stand 12-15 kg per decare is recommended, in mixtures 10-12 kg.
It is tolerant to the root diseases seen in forage pea. Even so, the certified seed we produce is treated against fungal disease.
